An on-campus celebratory reception in honor of Dr. Giordano will immediately follow the Inauguration Ceremony

Dr. Giordano was named Villa Maria’s interim president in July 2018. Since then, he has led the College Community into a new era of growth and achievement.

Under Dr. Giordano’s leadership, the College has launched three new academic programs in direct response to the increased demand for jobs in these industries in this area. Additionally, he spearheaded the development of a new strategic plan which will guide the College for three years.

College culture has also evolved under Dr. Giordano; an unprecedented level of collegiality has swept campus and all members of the College Community are looking to the future with excitement.

Mass

Inauguration day will begin with a full Catholic Mass in the Chapel of Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent. Monsignor Caligiuri will serve as the celebrant; Father Augustine Ayaga and Deacon Paul Emerson will serve as con-celebrants. Music will be provided by organist and part-time music faculty member Peter Gonciarz. Associate Professor of Music Sister Barbara Amrozowicz will compose and perform an original piece of music based on one of Dr. Giordano’s favorite readings. Weather permitting, attendees will congregate in the Chapel’s foyer to process across campus at the conclusion of the Mass. Mass begins as 12:30 PM.

Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony for Dr. Matthew Giordano as Villa Maria College’s fourth president will take place in the College’s auditorium. The ceremony, consisting of many long-standing academic traditions and protocols, will include a procession of delegates from other colleges and universities, the formal swearing in of President Giordano as the College’s fourth president, and the delivery of President Giordano’s inaugural address. The ceremony begins at 2:30 PM.

Reception

Upon the completion of the official Inauguration Ceremony, all attendees are cordially invited to attend a reception in Dr. Giordano’s honor. Guests may indulge in hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and champagne in the College’s dining hall. President Giordano will be present along with his family and friends. Musical entertainment will be provided. The reception will immediately follow the Inauguration Ceremony. Both the reception and the day will conclude around 5:30 in the evening.

For Mass: Free parking is available along Doat Street and outside of the College’s Athletic Center, which can be accessed by entering campus from Pine Ridge Road and following the on-campus signage down to the Athletic Center. It is a short walk from the Athletic Center to the Chapel. Please see the campus map for further clarification.

For the ceremony and reception: Free parking is available anywhere on campus. It is recommended that you enter campus from Pine Ridge Road and park behind the Main Building. You may enter campus from Pine Ridge Road and proceed under the near underpass between the Main Building and the Library Building or the far underpass between the Main Building and the Music Building. Handicap spots are available in both areas. Please see the campus map for further clarification.

For Mass: Anyone in need of wheelchair access into the Chapel should proceed to the front entrance. You will be directed to the side entrance, where a College representative will meet and escort you to the elevator.

For the Ceremony and Reception: Enter the Main Building through any door; all entryways are accessible. An elevator is located just inside the door closest to the Library Building, and another is located just inside the Music Building. Both can be seen on the campus map.

The College’s admissions staff will be offering campus tours to anyone interested in learning more about what Villa Maria has to offer its students. Tours will depart from the main foyer of the Main Building every 30 minutes. Tours last approximately 30 minutes in length.

The Inauguration Ceremony will take place in the College’s auditorium. The auditorium is located on the second floor of the Main Building, directly behind the Main Foyer. Please see the campus map for further clarification. College staff will be present to direct guests to the auditorium as needed.

The Post-Inauguration Ceremony will take place in the College’s dining hall. The dining hall is located on the ground floor of the Main Building, directly below the auditorium. Guests coming from the Inauguration Ceremony can make their way down to the dining hall by using the stairs on the right-hand side when exiting the auditorium. Anyone in need of an elevator may exit the auditorium to the left, proceed down the hallway past the business office and access the elevator just before entering the library. Guests attending only the reception can access the dining hall by entering any door to the Main Building on the ground level and proceeding down the hallway. Once the bookstore is reached, turn and the walk straight into the bookstore. College staff will be present to direct guests to the dining hall as needed.
