Campus remains closed due to COVID-19, but an international pandemic won’t stop Villa Maria College’s Film Club from hosting a campus–favorite event, Red Carpet Night. For the first time in the popular event’s three-year history, the event will be held virtually.
The student-run event will be held this Friday, May 15. The live stream will begin at 6:45 PM and the first film will be shown at 7:00 PM.
“Everyone deserves the opportunity to show off the work that they’re proud of,” said Ashton Barrie, a senior digital filmmaking major, and the president of Villa’s film club. “Virtual Red Carpet Night, even under the current circumstances, gives us the chance to provide students with that opportunity. We‘ve learned so much and have worked so hard, we all deserve to display that work and we’re excited to show it!”
Virtual Red Carpet Night will also support the College’s mission, by serving as a fundraiser in support of WNY COVID-19 Community Response Fund. “Throughout the event, and for several weeks afterward, we will be raising money for the WNY COVID-19 Community Response Fund,” said Barrie. “This fund goes directly to relief right here in Western New York and was founded by several organizations – The Health Foundation for Western & Central New York, United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, and The John R. Oishei Foundation.”
