Submit Pieces to Skald

Our award-winning publication is designed annually with student art and literary pieces submitted throughout the year.

Submissions are juried and work must be created through courses at Villa Maria College.

To submit your artwork and/or literary works online, follow the directions below. Be sure to complete all fields on the upload form.

Submission Guidelines

  • There is no limit to the number of pieces you may enter.
  • All work must be created through your coursework at Villa Maria College.
  • Originally artwork, such as fine art and three-dimensional work must be submitted digitally as a high-quality photo.
  • For animation, motion graphics or digital film work, please submit 5-7 still frame images.

Formatting your submissions:

Adobe Photoshop

  1. Format your image(s) to at least 5 x 7 inches, 300dpi, RGB or CMYK file.
  2. With your file open in Photoshop, go to File>File Info and put the title of the piece, your name, and a description of the piece in the document description.
  3. Save your file as a JPEG (set Quality to 12 Maximum setting) or as a TIFF format without layers (Image Compression: none, Pixel Order: Interleaved, Byte Order: Macintosh and Layer Compression: RLE).

 Adobe Illustrator

  1. With your file open in Illustrator, go to File>File Info and put the title of the piece, your name, and a description of the piece in the document description.
  2. OUTLINE ALL TYPE within your document before saving.
  3. Save your file as Adobe PDF(pdf), choose [High Quality Print] Preset.

Adobe InDesign

  1. With your file open in InDesign, go to File>File Info and put the title of the piece, your name, and a description of the piece in the document description.
  2. OUTLINE ALL TYPE within your document before saving.
  3. EXPORT your file as an Adobe PDF (Print), choose [High Quality Print] Preset.

MS Word

  1. With your file open in MS Word, go to File>Properties>Summary and put the title of the piece, your name, and a description of the piece in the comments section.
  2. Save your file(s) as a Word Document (.docx) file.

Naming and uploading your files

  1. Name your file(s) with your last name and a number, eg. williams1.jpg, williams2.jpg.
  2. Upload your file(s) to the form below.
