Between trying to find your way around campus, attending all your classes, and adjusting to the work load college courses require, you may wonder how you’ll fit any sort of social activity into your schedule ever again.
The good news is, Villa offers 18 different clubs and 8 intercollegiate sports that enable students to get involved without stepping foot off campus. Our Office of Student Life even reserves one campus hour a month so all clubs can meet during that time without having to miss another campus event. Campus hours take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. No classes are scheduled during campus hours and students are free to use that time however they want.
Clubs at Villa are student run and can be academic or social (or both, if you’re friends with your classmates!). Some of the academic clubs include:
- Animation Club
- Fashion Club
- Graphic Design Club
- IN (Interior Design) Club
- Music Club
- Phi Theta Kappa
- PTA (Physical Therapist Assistant) Club
- Say Yes to Success
And some of the social clubs include:
- Campus Ministry Club
- Dram Appreciation Club
- EASE: Environmental Awareness, Sustainability & Education
- Gamers Guild
- The Love Revolution
- Spirit Club
- Student Government
- Villa Volunteers
- The Writers Circle
All students are welcome to join any club and if you don’t see something that interests you, you’re able to start your own club! If you’d like to join a club, all you have to do is pop into one of their meetings. You can also contact the faculty/staff advisor or get in touch with the student president. A list of all Villa’s current clubs, the faculty/staff advisor and the student president can be found here. If you’re interested in starting a new club, you can get the ball rolling by contact DJ Schier, our director of student life, who you probably recognize from Orientation, a student life event or just seeing around campus.
If you’re unsure of who DJ is…here’s his face! DJ’s office is located right in the dining hall and he can usually be found handing out cool prizes, scooping ice cream during ice cream socials or loaning pool sticks and ping pong paddles out to students. DJ started working for the College back in August of 2015. He graduated with a degree in Public Relations and minor in Leadership Studies from SUNY Fredonia in 2011 and received his Master’s in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration in 2013. Originally, he is from Montgomery, NY but has been living in Buffalo since 2011. DJ currently advises a few clubs on campus, including Gaming Guild, Cheerleading, and Student Government. DJ is a huge video game lover, so it makes sense that he would advise the ever-expanding Gaming Guild. Some of his favorite video games include Final Fantasy IX, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and Harvest Moon 64! He is also a huge music fan and loves listening to Kelly Clarkson, Walk The Moon, and Hilary Duff!
If you’re interested in playing a sport for the College, visit VillaVikings.com. We currently offer the following sports:
- Cross Country
- Cross Country
You should contact the coach of your sport to learn more about the process of and requirements for joining the team. The women’s soccer season is currently underway, but the teams are all always looking to expand. Our athletes have full access to our existing basketball court, gym and weight room, which are located in the athletic center. We’re in the middle of filling in the College’s old pool so we can build a brand new practice gym that will house a regulation-size basketball court and a practice volleyball court. (Learn more about that project here!)
