Navigating college alone and being a first generational college student, is a situation Ashley Harris understands well. Researching the difference between a community/technical/state college, student financial aid, course selection, getting involved, finding “my people” were all challenges as she began her college career. Ashley was born in Dayton, Ohio to a broken home and was raised by her maternal grandparents. Through her participation with various community organizations, she began to understand there was a different way of life than she knew; if she attained a higher education. She attended Sinclair Community College to begin her college career and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Communication from the University of Cincinnati. After completing her undergraduate degree, she still found herself seemingly behind societal norms. Understanding where she was versus where she desired to be, Ashley enrolled at Murray State University where she graduated with a Master’s of Science in Human Development and Leadership.
