With so much to celebrate at the end of another academic year, it’s hard to keep track of all of the events that are taking place. Below is a list of some of those events, which take place both on and off-campus, showcasing the talented work of Villa’s students and faculty.

April

4/11: Emerging Students Reception
7 PM-8 PM | Dining Hall
Faculty, staff, and admin are invited to attend a special reception honoring the finalists of the College’s annual Emerging Students Competitions: Emerging Innovators and Emerging Writers. Throughout the months of March and April, high school students submitted original business plans, poems or short stories that were blindly judged by a panel of college representatives. Finalists have been contacted and winners will be announced at the reception on Thursday, April 11 from 7 PM-8 PM. Now-4/13: Senior Photography Exhibition: Molly Sheehan, ‘Beyond the Music’

There are only two days left to see the work of senior photography major Molly Sheehan, displaying her work in a show called “Beyond the Music.” Sheehan photographs musicians in the environments in which they play and documents how they prepare for a concert. Each of her photographs are accompanied by audio of the musician singing or playing their instrument. The exhibit will be on display through April 13.

4/13: eSports Open House
12 PM-2 PM | Dining Hall
Current and prospective students are invited to come and play Smash Brothers Ultimate on the Switch! John Eberhart, eSports coach, and Admissions will be on site to talk more about the new eSports team starting in the Fall of 2019 and the admissions process to become a Villa Viking! 4/15: 1st Annual Faculty & Staff Ping Pong Tournament
The 1st Annual Faculty and Staff Ping Pong Tournament date will take place on Monday, April 15 from 12 PM-1PM in the Dining Hall! The sign-up sheet for faculty and staff will be available at the main reception desk. Please make sure to sign up by 12 PM on Friday, April 12 to be eligible to participate.

4/15: Celebration of Words and Images
1 PM-2:15 PM | Library Computer Room
In celebration of National Poetry Month, the college community is invited to share their own work or favorite poem. The Intro to Creative Writing class will be the core group, but everyone is invited to share. Sponsored by the Creative Writing & Literature Program at Villa Maria College.

4/16: Graduate Gathering
4 PM-7 PM | Dining Hall
All graduates are welcome to attend this one stop shop to make sure you are all set for graduation! Come and learn all about the big day and all of the details that lead up to it! Refreshments will be provided! Sponsored by the Office of Student Life.

4/17: Senior Photography Exhibition: Stephanie Kaempf, ‘Forgotten Beauty’
April 17-May 3 | Starlight Studios | 340 Delaware Ave, Buffalo
Starlight Studios & Art Gallery is pleased to present Forgotten Beauty, an exhibition of photography by Stephanie Kaempf. Kaempf photographs dancers in abandoned buildings. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 18th from 6:00pm-9:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on display until May 3.

4/18: Easter Holiday (College closed)
April 18-April 22 | Campus Wide
In observance of the Easter holiday, Villa Maria College will be closed on Thursday, April 18, Friday, April 19, Saturday, April 20, Sunday, April 21 and Monday, April 22. We will resume normal hours of operation and classes on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 AM.

4/23: Student Recital: Percussion Ensemble

All are invited to attend the student Percussion Ensemble being held in the Recital Hall from 11 AM-12 PM on April 23.

4/25: Student Recital: Hip Hop Ensemble

All are invited to attend the student Hip Hop Ensemble being held in the Recital Hall from 11 AM-12 PM on April 25.

4/25: 2019 Honors Convocation
7 PM-9 PM | Auditorium
Honors Convocation is an annual event held in recognition of the academic accomplishments of our students during the 2018-2019 school year. During this celebratory event, each program will honor an outstanding student in its area. Full and part-time faculty are also recognized for their achievements. After the formal program, guests are invited to attend a small reception, at which refreshments will be served.

4/26: Graphic Design Program Student Exhibit
April 25-May 3 | Paul William Beltz Family Art Gallery
This month the gallery will be filled with print ads, packaging designs, typography, posters, websites and more, all of which has been created by our graphic design students. The details for an opening reception will be announced soon; the exhibit runs through May 3.

4/26: Nouveau Society Fashion Show
7 PM-9 PM | Social Hall, Athletic Center
Fashion Design and Merchandising Annual Fashion Show presents Nouveau Society. This show will feature what the students have been working on all semester and incorporates Villa Maria’s core value TRANSFORMATION. Mixing the past with the present, the students work will display their idea of a new society of dress. Learn more about Nouveau Society at villa.edu/nouveausociety.

4/26: Senior Recital: Tanner DeMarco
7 PM-9 PM | Recital Hall
A concert featuring music industry senior Tanner DeMarco. Tanner will be featured on both drum set and vibraphone as he and the Four Winds play a repertoire of jazz classics, including songs by Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and more. The Concert is free admission and there will also be free food and drink provided.

4/27: Honors Symposium
11 AM-1 PM | Various Locations
The Honors Symposium will highl.ight the work of graduating Honors students. It will also provide them the opportunity to discuss their experience at the College with attendees. Learn more about Villa’s Honors Program at Villa.edu/academics/honors.

4/27: 2019 Decorator’s Show House
April 27-May 19 | 288 Lincoln Pkwy, Buffalo, NY
Organized by the Junior League of Buffalo, this year’s Decorator’s Show House will feature the work of Villa Maria’s Interior Design Program students as well as Alumni. The fully decorated Show House will be open to the public on April 27 – May 19, 2019.

4/27: Unity Ball
7 PM | Athletic Center
The Pride Club at Villa Maria College invites you for a night of refreshments, basket raffles, a runway competition, and more! Admission is only $1 and all proceeds will be going to the pride Club of Villa Maria College and GLYS of WNY.

4/28: #stopsuicide Fundraiser and Show
2 PM | Rec Room Buffalo, 79 W. Chippewa Street, Buffalo, NY
Senior music industry student Maddie Radwan has organized a fundraiser and concert, which will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Performers include Villa students Maddie Radwan, Tanner DeMarco, Ryan Weatherbee and Villa guitar instructor Ron LoCurto. The event will feature basket raffles, bake sale, games and activities. Admission is free with donations encouraged. Other performances will include Villa students and faculty.

4/29: Spring Week at Villa!

Organized by the Office of Student Life, enjoy the last full week of classes with events being held every day from April 29-May 3.

5/2: Student Recital: Honors Soloist

All are invited to attend the student Honors Soloist recital being held in the Auditorium from 7 PM-8 PM on May 2.

5/2: Digital Filmmaking Presents: Red Carpet Night
7 PM-9 PM | Social Hall, Athletic Center
Run by the VMC Film Club, Red Carpet Night is a night dedicated to dressing up and screening student films. Film and animation students are encouraged to submit projects they accomplished throughout the school year to an audience of family, friends, and guests.

5/3: Prelude: Senior BFA Graphic Design Exhibit
May 3- May 4 | Buffalo Arts Studio
This senior thesis exhibition by ten senior BFA graphic design students of Villa Maria College represents the culmination of the visual communication and design skills acquired throughout their undergraduate studies. An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 3 from 5 PM-8 PM at Buffalo Arts Studio in the Tri-Main Center located at 2495 Main Street in Buffalo.

5/3: Sway: Fine Arts Senior Thesis Exhibit
May 3- May 24 | Big Orbit Gallery
Villa Maria College is proud to present a Senior Thesis exhibition featuring work by Dominique Davis and Shanel Kerekes.
An opening reception for Sway will be held on Friday May 3rd from 7-9 pm. The exhibition will be on view through May 24th at Big Orbit Gallery, 30 Essex St. in Buffalo.

5/6: Interior Design Program Critiques
May 6-May 10 | Paul William Beltz Family Art Gallery
Stop by the art gallery on campus between May 6-10 to take a peak at some of the program work of Villa’s Interior Design students.

5/8: Villa Maria College Gala
6 PM | May 8 | Shea’s Seneca | 2178 Seneca Street
Join us as we celebrate Villa Maria College. Starting at 6 PM on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, guests will delight in a showcase of this beloved local institution. Tickets available through the Office of Development, contact Tracy Rozler at 716-961-1825 or [email protected].

5/10: Sophomore Animation Showcase
5 PM-7:30 PM | Auditorium
The Animation Department is hosting its annual screening of the work created by sophomore students. A small reception will take place from 5 PM – 6 PM, and will be followed by a showcase of work.

5/10: Senior Recital: Luis Montijo
7 PM-8:30 PM | Recital Hall
Luis Montijo will be presenting various selections for Voice and Guitar and is the culmination of his study here at Villa. The event will feature Special Guests and a variety of genres from salsa and hip-hop, to show-tunes and classical.

5/14: Accepted Student Day
11:30 AM-4:00 PM | Campus Wide
Villa will be holding its spring Accepted Student Day on campus. Please show the future Vikings that will be visiting for the day a warm Villa welcome!

5/16: Annual High School Photography Exhibit
May 16-May 31 | Paul William Beltz Family Art Gallery
The 25th Annual High School Photography Exhibition will be held in Villa’s on-campus Gallery. It will showcase the work of area HS students with awards and scholarships to attend the Photography Program this fall. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, May 16 from 5 PM-7 PM, and the exhibit will run through May 31.

5/19: 55th Commencement
10 AM | Campus Wide
Villa will be celebrating its 55th Commencement exercises starting at 10 AM on Sunday, May 19. For more information, go to villa.edu/commencement.

5/20: Junior/Senior Animation Screening
2 PM | Shea’s Smith Theatre
The Junior and Senior students of Villa’s animation program will be screening their work at Shea’s Smith Theatre, located at 658 Main Street in Buffalo. The screening will be at 2 PM, with a reception to immediately follow.
