Villa Maria and Medaille University have reached a teach-out agreement that will allow Medaille’s students to complete their degrees at the College once their university closes in August.
Medaille students will be accepted to Villa Maria and can transfer the credits they have earned towards equivalent programs at Villa. All Mavericks will be assigned an individual transfer counselor that will help them identify which of Villa Maria’s 19 academic programs most closely aligns with their current course of study. Some of the most overt matches include business, communications, psychology, and more.
Villa Maria’s tuition for the Fall 2023 semester is less than what Medaille students paid for the 2022-2023 academic year, as well as most other institutions in Western New York. Plus, textbooks and supplies are free for all students who attend the College. Additionally, Villa Maria can offer an unlimited number of Say Yes scholarships to students who attended a Buffalo Public High School for four years. Medaille students may find a more affordable option studying at Villa Maria.
Like Medaille, Villa Maria is a small, private college that prides itself on being student centered. Villa offers a wide range of support services that will allow Mavericks to finish their coursework in an environment that was designed for their success. This includes the Student Success Center that offers academic support, the Care Center that offers mental health support, and a countless number of student-run clubs that create an inclusive and friendly atmosphere. Any Mavericks who are interested in playing men’s and women’s basketball or soccer are welcome to join a team. The Villa Vikings currently complete in the USCAA.
“This situation is understandably upsetting, and it’s probably not something any of these students thought they’d have to work through,” said Dr. Matthew Giordano, Villa Maria’s President. “Villa is ready to welcome all incoming and undergraduate students who want to complete their degree, and we’ll work with them to facilitate their transition. Villa is home to so many people for so many reasons, we believe the Mavericks will feel at home in our diverse, diverse, supportive, and tight-knit community that mirrors the atmosphere found at Medaille.”
