This is an especially hard time of year for food pantries, as they tend to see a significant decline in donations after the holiday season is over.
Even just in our community, the numbers provide a telling story: In 2025, the Sister Mary Josette Food Pantry served 11,221 individuals. That’s up from 8,723 in 2024 and 2,864 in 2023. That’s a 292% increase in individuals served in just three years.
The First Annual Viking Food drive will take place from January 20—March 6. Donation bins can be found in various locations around campus in the Main Building, Felician Hall, Bieler Center, Athletics Center, and Art Shop. When you donate to the Viking Food Drive, you are helping to support Villa’s neighbors in times of need. All proceeds go directly to The Sister Mary Josette Food Pantry and to St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy in Buffalo.

The First Annual Viking Food drive is being run by Villa Maria Faculty at the College and will benefit the Sister Mary Josette Food Pantry and St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy.
Villa Maria College will have the honor to host international speaker Sister Helen Prejean, as she speaks passionately on her crusade to abolish the death penalty. Her best-selling book Dead Man Walking, that details her experience accompanying a man on death row to his execution, has been turned into a graphic novel. She wants to share her story with young people as she promotes justice and peace for all
