Francesca Bubb, ’19, was the first place winner of this year’s Portfolio Day.

Portfolio Day is an annual opportunity for college students to have their work reviewed by creative professionals who work in the Western New York area. Students from Villa Maria College, University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, Daemen College, and Rochester Institute of Technology attended and put their best work on display for a chance to win an AAF Buffalo scholarship.

Similar to speed dating, Portfolio Day connects a student with a professional for a brief, one-on-one interview. During their time together, the professional assess the student’s portfolio and provides valuable feedback that is meant to strengthen their body of work. The event also gave students the opportunity to learn about how to most effectively talk about their work, and was an excellent networking event for those nearing graduation. According to AAF Buffalo, many past attendees have gained connections, internships and even jobs from the Portfolio Review.

At the end of the day, the professionals were asked to vote on the portfolio that was best in their opinion. First place was awarded to Francesca Bubb, a junior graphic design major at Villa Maria College.
