Strong Showing for Villa’s Music Department in 4th Annual JazzBuffalo Poll

The fourth annual JazzBuffalo Poll results are in, and Villa’s faculty and alumni were named as winners in several categories.

According to JazzBuffalo, the poll is a casting of ballots by readers of JazzBuffalo, audiences, fans, musicians, and supporters of jazz.  The poll is not a “best of” from a critic point of view.  Rather, it represents the most important and true measure of what audiences became aware of, liked, and appreciated in 2017.  

Over 2100 ballots were cast by jazz fans, aficionados, and players, and the winners of the 4th Annual JazzBuffalo Poll include both Villa Maria College Music program faculty members and alumni:

  • Jazz Electric Bass: Honorable mention, Jerry Livingston
  • Jazz Vibes: Winner, Alec Dube
  • Jazz Drums: Winner, John Bacon, Jr.
  • Jazz Traditional Group: Runners up, Fredtown stompers: (2 members are alumni from music department: Ralph DeMarco and Brian DeJesus)
  • Jazz Large Ensemble: Winners, Buffalo Jazz Octet (3 of our faculty are members are in the ensemble)
  • Jazz College/University Educator: Winner, John Bacon, Jr.
  • Jazz Crusader: Winner, Linda Appleby
