Study Abroad Presentation- Italy 2017 and Spain/Portugal 2019 @ M&T Conference Room, Villa Maria College
Oct 23 @ 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Students from the Italy 2017 Study Abroad will participate in a panel discussion and presentation about the experiences visiting Italy in 2017. A film by Tayton Troidl ’20, Digital Film and Communications student, will be featured. The evening will conclude with an informational session on the upcoming Study Abroad opportunity in Spain and Portugal in Spring 2019. The trip is open to students, faculty and alumni from Villa. Participants also have the ability to invite a guest on the trip.

Cybersecurity Presentation: Avoid Scams @ M&T Conference Room, Main Building, Villa Maria College

Identity theft, spamming, phishing, ransomware, computer and account hijacking, and data breaches—these are the negative aspects of technological growth.  Obviously, it is important that users develop an awareness of issues and take defensive action as necessary.
Since October is Cybersecurity month, the computer services staff in conjunction with Microsoft and the FBI will be offering open sessions for the College and outside community to learn about cyber threats and hazards and mechanisms to prevent these threats.

On Tuesday, October 24, Emily Pricola from Microsoft will be presenting at 10:30 AM on how to Avoid Scams in the M&T Conference Room.

From 10:00 to 1:00 in the main foyer, Stacey Herod of Microsoft will be handing out Microsoft bags and displaying the new Surface Laptop and the Surface Studio (which will demonstrate the software we use here at the college).  This is part of Villa’s partnership with Microsoft.

Thursday, October 26, Supervisory Special Agent, FBI Cyber Task Force, Jason S. Fickett will be on campus to discuss Cybercrimes.  This presentation is scheduled from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Recital Hall.

Guest Speaker: Jim Cavanaugh, Aerial and Architectural Photographer-Guest Speaker @ Room 210, Main Building, Villa Maria College | Buffalo | New York | United States

Jim Cavanaugh’s clients include local and national architects, engineers, interior designers, contractors, real estate developers, architectural product manufacturers and government agencies.
He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and is a National Director and former 1st Vice-President of the association. He is a former director of The Media Photographers Copyright Agency. He also serves as Chairman of ASMP’s Specialty Group Relations Committee and was Chairman of the Business Practices Committee of ASMP/Architecture. He is
a two-time Past President of the Western New York Chapter of ASMP. Jim is an Allied Member of the Buffalo/WNY Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He is a strong advocate of copyright issues and ethical business practices in photography.
