Villa Maria College is pleased to announce it has been granted Associate Membership with the National Association of Schools of Music, (NASM).  The National Association of Schools of Music currently recognizes 641 schools, conservatories, colleges and universities that meet national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials. Villa Maria College becomes one of 23 schools in New York State to hold this recognition.

NASM uses a peer review process (review by music educators from other colleges) to study the curriculum, educational plans, faculty expertise, facilities, library and music library holdings, and other resources as part of their evaluation.  Expectations for opportunities for music students to play together and perform also are critical.

“This accreditation indicates that Villa Maria College meets the rigorous standards set for colleges and universities across the country. This further demonstrates that Villa Maria College continues to be a leader in academic programs specializing in Arts and Music”, said Sister Marcella Marie Garus. President of Villa Maria College.

Villa Maria College continues to explore new programs for students and will soon be offering opportunities for music students to minor in business, to complete a bachelor of art in music with a concentration in jazz and more options for students in other majors to minor in music or recording.

Villa Maria College is a private, co-educational Catholic college specializing in the applied arts and music.  The College recently expanded its baccalaureate programs to include photography, graphic design, music (jazz concentration) and music industry.  Bachelors of Fine Arts degree programs include animation, creative writing and literature (NEW), fashion design and merchandising, and interior design.  Associate degree programs are offered in the applied arts; music, music (business), jazz; liberal arts; and other career fields.  In addition, the college is now offering a certificate program in Historic Preservation and Restoration (Interior Design).
