Renowned animator Skip Battaglia will be visiting Villa Maria College’s Animation program on Wednesday, April 16. Battaglia will be critiquing projects in the ANM 402: Senior Thesis Film Production II class, led by animation professor Sarah Hanson.

While Battaglia will first be meeting with graduating seniors, all other students are invited to his presentation as well as the critique. He will begin speaking at approximately 9:00 a.m., and the critiques will end no later than 1:50 p.m.

Battaglia has been making independent films since 1970 and “trying to reinvent the film” with personally made, hand drawn and personally composed animated works. Some of his work can be seen on Vimeo and his home page.

His films have also been screened all over the world, at festivals such as the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Telluride, AnimaMundi, Kalamazoo, Buffalo Niagara Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Melbourne, Taiwan, New Zealand. Currently he is a professor in the School of Film and Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

A private, co-educational, Catholic college, Villa Maria offers students a unique experience to learn and grow with a culturally diverse student population and a growing baccalaureate culture that lives its values of truth, charity, and unity.
