Faculty member Jesse Walp has four pieces that will be exhibited in the upcoming Wood: On and Off the Wall exhibition at the Chautauqua Institute. June 23 – August 4, 2013 in the Bellowe Family Gallery on the second floor of Strohl Art Center. Other participating artists include Michael Bauermeister, David French, Kevin O’Toole, and Eric Serritella. The opening reception is Sunday June 23 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Walp was born in Wellsville, New York, grew up in Southern Mississippi, studied Interior Design at Mississippi State University, studied Furniture Design and Woodworking at the Rochester Institute of Technology and our resident Woodworking Faculty member at Villa Maria College. He has held sculpture residencies at Community Art centers in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Reading, Pennsylvania, and has taught classes as well as created work to exhibit on the east coast. Most notably, in 2010 Walp was commissioned by ArtPark to create “Emerald Grove,” a whimsical interactive permanent art installation geared towards children and nature lovers. In addition, some of Walp’s work was recently purchased by the Burchfield Penney Art Center and the Chautauqua Institute for their sculpture garden.
