Villa Maria College’s Information Technology Services department is excited to announce campus-wide email, software and other technological upgrades will be implemented this summer. The most visible change will be the incorporation of Microsoft Office 365.
Once installed, every registered student at the college will have access to the latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook—including Calendar and Contacts, OneNote, Access, Lync with Audio/Visual Conferencing, Publisher, InfoPath, Visio and SkyDrive storage. This access will be available on both Macs and PCs, iPhones and Androids, and smart devices such as iPads and netbooks for up to 5 devices per person.
The ITS department will also install new software on all student computers throughout the campus, as well as new computer systems in the Room 12 animation facility and expanding audio/visual capabilities in several lecture classrooms.
In preparation for these activities, students are asked to:
- Remove any projects saved on computer desktops or on the computer hard drive (generally C:) you have been working on. Please save these files to external devices or to the Network Attached Storage device;
- Print or save important email on a portable drive. When the e-mail system upgrades, your current e-mail mailbox will be deleted and a new mailbox will be set up for you in Office 365. Your e-mail address will not change.
These activities must be completed on or before June 1.
The college is not responsible for any data lost as a result of not adhering to the prescribed deadline. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this upgrade is a major improvement and we need to “start fresh” with our student e-mail accounts.
The Information Technology Services department looks forward to providing you with expanded computer access and the ability to save a Microsoft-related project and work on that project from any location connected to the Internet.
