Creative Writing & Literature Graduates Make an Impact

The first two Creative Writing & Literature graduates, Kerry Kate Abel-Smith ’14 and Lloyd Mitchell ’14, are serving their communities at each end of New York State. Having completed their studies and presented their Senior Projects in December, they are applying their skills in the real world. Lloyd is a reporter and photojournalist for the Canarsie Courier newspaper covering Southeast Brooklyn, doing far more writing than he expected! He continues his devotion to the local fire companies as a photographer for Fire Engineering Magazine.

Kerrykate, in addition to performing on local stages, is tutoring writing and other courses at Villa twice a week and offering four afterschool leadership classes — in cooking, theater, leadership and civics. She recently reprised a cabaret show with fellow Villa music alumnus Chuck Basil and actress Lorraine O’Donnell and is rehearsing with Musicalfare for Yellen at Buffalo. She has been invited to serve as an alumna representative to the new Creative Writing & Literature Advisory Council. We eagerly await the mounting of her Senior Project Hoarding Hope on stage in Buffalo.
