PLANNED GIVING

Many friends of Villa Maria College have found that through proper planning they can support the College in a meaningful way while maximizing tax benefits for themselves. 

Bequests through Wills or Trusts

Donors may bequeath cash, securities, real estate or other property to Villa Maria College by including the College in their wills. The donor retains full control and use of the property during his or her lifetime. At the time of the donor's death, the bequest qualifies as a charitable deduction for estate tax purposes.

A bequest may be made for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the estate, or as a contingent gift depending upon the circumstances of other beneficiaries.

Insurance

Insurance gifts result in tax deductions for the donor who transfers ownership and names Villa Maria College as beneficiary of a new or existing policy. The policy may be paid-up, and no longer necessary to the individual as life situations change, or it may require premium payments to continue. In the latter case, if the donor continues to pay the premiums, the payments are fully deductible as outright cash gifts.

Charitable Trusts

Charitable trusts allow donors to reduce estate taxes, eliminate capital gains, claim an income tax deduction and benefit Villa Maria College. A Charitable Remainder Trust is irrevocable and provides income for you during your lifetime. After your death, Villa Maria College receives the residual of the trust. A Charitable Lead Trust is also irrevocable and provides income to Villa Maria College while you live. Upon your death your heirs receive the residual of your estate.
