Program Description 

The Liberal Arts programs allow students the freedom to construct individualized programs of study with a strong foundation in the humanities and social sciences. Whether students choose the General Studies, Humanities, or Social Sciences concentrations, they can select from a variety of electives in diverse academic areas to create an associate-degree program tailored to their interests and long-term goals. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, clear writing, persuasive speaking, cultural diversity, and information literacy skills so that students graduate with a well-rounded education and the ability to solve problems successfully. Throughout their experience in the program, students will receive intensive personalized attention from instructors and advisors who work collaboratively with students to ensure academic success.

The Liberal Arts programs are constructed to facilitate successful transfer into baccalaureate programs in a number of fields. Program Description
Primarily transfer programs, the Liberal Arts programs provide students with an academic foundation in the arts, language, social and natural sciences, religious studies, philosophy, and English. Students may choose from the following concentrations: General Studies, Humanities, and Social Science. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, clear writing, persuasive speaking, information literacy, cultural diversity and decision-making.
Study in the Liberal Arts is for students who are exploring options about an academic major and career goal, and seek an associate degree that will prepare them with a solid foundation for further study.
Career Potential & Employment Outlook
Statistics indicate that the average person will make eight to ten career changes within a 
lifetime. The liberal arts programs at Villa Maria College provide students with the flexibility 
required for success in a rapidly changing society. Employment opportunities for liberal arts graduates exist in every type of organization. Many employers select liberal arts graduates because they possess skills including problem solving, critical thinking, and oral and written communication, as well as the use of electronic media and information resources. 
Graduates may find numerous entry-level positions available in banking, sales, real estate, and health and human services related fields. The programs serve the needs of students 
interested in transferring to four-year programs offering career preparation in such fields as pre-law, pre-med, social work, and business. The programs are ideal for students who have not determined their career interests.
