Summer High School Forensics Camp

Villa Maria College hosted high school summer camps during the months of July and August in 2003. The summer of 2004 will feature more camps in science and music and will be open to students enrolled in high school by September 2004.

Last summer's science camp, titled Focus on Forensics, was held July 21 – 25th. The camp focused on the science of crime investigation as seen in popular television programs such as CSI and Witness. During the camp, students had the chance to live the life of a forensic investigator by working in teams to solve a fictional murder mystery using state-of-the-art evidence-gathering and lab analysis techniques. At the conclusion of the camp, students participated in a mock trial where the teams presented their expert testimony and made closing statements. Topics covered included: an understanding of what forensic science really is; techniques for detecting blood, fingerprints and hair analysis, DNA profiling; classification of evidence, courtroom testimony, and career opportunities in the field.
The camp’s instructor was Ted Yeshion, President of ClueFindfers, Inc. Mr. Yeshion is a Forensic Scientist, Crime Lab Director and former special agent and is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Science.
