Buffalo Service Day 2009

When does 120 + 11 = 1?
When 120 volunteers + 11 work sites = 1 GREAT Buffalo Service Day

On Saturday March 28, approximately 120 volunteers from Villa Maria College and BonaResponds worked at 11 different sites in the Buffalo area. Here is a listing of what we accomplished:

SIFE Carnival: Games and fun for kids from the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program

Sr. Mary Josette Food Pantry: Cleaned the food pantry

Felician Sisters Provincial House: Painted 4 rooms for retreats; cleaned windows and woodwork (ate lots of cookies!)

Moving Miracles: Painted volunteer lounge; cleaned outside; watched and helped with dance lessons for children with disabilities

CHC Learning Center: Cleaned classroom and therapy equipment; sewed covers for pillows used for students with disabilities

St. Monica School: Cleaning, decorating at this school for at-risk middle school age girls

Kevin Guest House: Cleaning and outdoor work for this guest house for people undergoing treatment at, or with family members at Roswell Park Cancer Institute

St. Columba/Brigid Youth Center: Painted the youth center; moved furniture

Bob Lanier Center: Cleaned outside; washed gym floor

Cheektowaga Historical Museum: Cleaned basement; "rescued" several mannequins

The New Testament Revival Cathedral: painted youth center room, hallways; scraped and painted outdoor railings; scraped and sanded plaster walls
