Natural Sciences

The Program

The Natural Sciences program at Villa Maria College is a rigorous program concentrating on science and mathematics with a strong liberal arts core. The curriculum prepares students for transfer to programs in the natural and health science fields.

The Requirements
Students can take a combination of regular (15-week) and modularized (8-week) courses .

Area of Concentration

Fifty-three credit hours of coursework in the area of concentration are required, as follows:
  • Critical Thinking in Science or Human Biology and Laboratory
  • General Chemistry I and II and Laboratories
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Laboratories
  • Internship I and Seminar
  • Mathematics Electives
  • Microbiology and Laboratory
  • Microcomputer Applications I or II

Liberal Arts Core
Twenty-two credit hours of liberal arts core courses - a combination of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences are essential to a solid career foundation - are required for the program.

Transfer Opportunities
Villa's Director of Career Development assists program graduates with successful transfer of credits to other institutions.

Employment Opportunities
The health sciences are expected to grow at a faster than average rate for the next ten years. Many health science areas, such as bioinformatics, nuclear medicine technology, nursing, and physician assistant offer career opportunities after transfer to four-year institutions.

For reference to several other health services opportunities available, consult with the Occupational Outlook Handbook or the New York State Department of Labor.

Summer High School Forensics Camp

Villa Maria College hosted high school summer camps during the months of July and August in 2003. Channel 4 News featured a story on the Forensics Camp. Click here for more information and to watch the segment that was broadcast.

Special Program Notes

All students--including transfer and adult students--are encouraged to call the Villa Maria College Admissions Office for information on how to qualify for entry into this program.

Program faculty are committed to integrating the latest in educational technology into both the lecture and laboratory settings.

Classes in the sciences at Villa Maria College are small, especially compared with those at four-year colleges, and students receive the personal attention necessary for success.
