African- American:

NAACP Roy Wilkins Scholarship

Qualifications:  High school seniors with minority background; active NAACP members preferred; financial need, leadership qualities, minimum 2.5 GPA. Undergraduate applicants must be full-time students.  If a student drops below the required full-time status, the Scholarship Selection Committee will adjust the grant received to 50% of the award allocated for that semester. Applicant must possess a grade point average of at least 2.5 (C+) on a 4.0 system. The Roy Wilkins Scholarship is not renewable.

Asian- Pacific:

OCA- UPS Gold Mountain Scholarship

OCA has been provided with funding from the UPS Foundation to fund the OCA-UPS Gold Mountain Scholarship for Asian Pacific Americans (APA) who are the first persons in their family to attend an institution of higher education. Chinese immigrants looked upon America as a mountain of golden opportunities to make a better life for themselves and their families.

Qualifications: Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) who are the first person in their immediate family to attend college in the United States;

  • APAs who are entering their first year of college in the Fall of 2009;
  • Must demonstrate financial need;
  • Must be a permanent resident or U.S. citizen; and
  • Must have a cumulative GPA 3.00 or above.

Shui Kuen and Allen Chin Scholarship

The children of Shui Kuen and Allen Chin established the Shui Kuen and Allen Chin Scholarship to honor the values of their parents and to transform the tragic death of their father into something positive. This scholarship program supports undergraduate and graduate students who have worked at an Asian-owned or Asian-cuisine restaurant, or whose parents have worked or are working at one. One scholarship of $1,000 is available.

Qualifications: Full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university

  • Student of any ethnicity currently or formerly employed at an Asian-owned or Asian-cuisine restaurant; or have at least one parent currently or formerly employed in an Asian restaurant
  • Minimum grade-point average of 3.0
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Preference given to students performing community service in the Asian American community
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency

Greek:

Hellenic Times Scholarship

Qualifications:

  1. Applicants must be of Greek descent, and between the ages of 17 and 25 as of May, 2010.
  2. Students receiving a full scholarship from any other source, or a partial scholarship exceeding 50% of their annual tuition, are ineligible.
  3. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of necessity and merit. All decisions are final.
  4. Applicants must submit official school transcripts and are required to submit a copy of tax returns. Winners are required to submit a copy of their Bursar tuition bill.
  5. Applicants may be requested to be interviewed by a member of the Hellenic Times Scholarship Committee.
  6. Employees of the Hellenic Times and their families are not eligible.
  7. The Hellenic Times reserves the right to amend these guidelines.

The Hispanic College Fund is the product of a dedicated group of Hispanic businessmen and women who were inspired to respond to the alarming growth in the number of talented Hispanic students who could not afford a college education.  (This general scholarship is offered on the listed website along with additional scholarship links for US citizens of Hispanic descent.)

Qualifications: US citizen or permanent resident of Hispanic background residing in the US or Puerto Rico.  Applicant must be enrolled (or in the process of enrolling) as a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) in an accredited college or university with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.

State Farm Companies Foundation has assisted Hispanic college students through its relationship with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund since 1990. Each year, we provide $2,500 scholarships to 20 Hispanic college students who are pursing a teaching career.

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has an education budget of $1,000,000. The NIAF will award scholarships and grants to outstanding students in the summer of 2010 for use during the following academic year. The awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and divided between two groups of students.

General Category I: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Area of study: open.

Qualifications: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements.  Applicant must be: enrolled in an US accredited institution of higher education for the following fall, with a grade point average of at least 3.50 out of 4.0 and a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien. For the purposes of the NIAF Scholarship Program, to be “Italian American” the student must have at least one ancestor who has emigrated from Italy. No immediate family members of the NIAF Board of Directors, Regional Vice-Presidents, Area Coordinators or staff are eligible for NIAF scholarships.

Japanese- Americans:

Japanese American Citizens League Scholarship Program

The JACL began its National Scholarship and Awards Program in 1946.  The JACL recognizes education as a key to greater opportunities for its members and therefore offers over 30 awards, with an annual total of over $60,000 in scholarships to qualified students nationwide.

Qualifications: Every applicant must be an active National JACL member at either an Individual or Student/Youth Level. Parent membership will not meet this requirement. Applicants must be planning to attend a college, university, trade school, business school, or any other institution of higher learning within the United States at the undergraduate or graduate school level

Korean- Americans:

A student currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program is qualified to apply for the KASF scholarship. The scholarship recipient is selected on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, school activities, and community services. Each applicant must submit an application to the respective KASF region, in which each region is designated by the state where school is located.

Qualifications: You will be eligible to apply for our Regional Chapter's scholarship so long as:

  1. you are a Korean (with a valid US student visa or permanent residence visa) or a Korean-American (US citizen),
  2. you will be a full time student, in a "degree program " (AA, BA, BS, MA, Ph.D, MD, MBA, JD, etc.), during the entire academic year for which the applicant is applying for the scholarship (all semesters), and
  3. you will be a high school senior (12th grade) or a student at a college, or graduate or professional school, located within our region.

American Indian Education Foundation

The American Indian Education Foundation offers over 100 scholarships to Native American Students every year. Students must be from a state or federally recognized tribe, be a full-time undergraduate, and plan to attend a two- or four-year college, university, or vocational school. Awards are between $1,500 and $3,000 and students must reapply every year. In addition to scholarship funding, AIEF provides mentoring and support for students receiving the scholarship. Qualifications:  Applicant must be Native American or Alaska Native descent, attending an accredited 2 or 4-year college, university or technical/vocational school as a full time student.  An ACT score of 14 or above is desirable.

Association on American Indian Affairs

Since 1922, the Association on American Indian Affairs has been dedicated to helping Native people and their communities in meeting the challenges they face.  One of these challenges is that of paying for a higher education.  AAIA assists college students in meeting this challenge through our seven scholarship programs.  AAIA offers two graduate fellowships, and five undergraduate scholarships, one of which is available to students from state recognized tribes or those tribes seeking federal recognition.  Funding of these scholarships depends on the generosity of our donors.   Therefore, availability may change from year to year.  All materials must be mailed together to the address listed

The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Allogan Slagle Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to American Indian and Native Alaskan students who are members of State Recognized Tribes seeking federal recognition.  Disbursement is made to the college during the fall semester.  This scholarship does not automatically renew.  Students are eligible to apply on a yearly basis.

Specific Qualifications: Certificate of Indian Blood is requested, but not required for this scholarship only, due to the nature of the tribal status.

 

Adolph Van Pelt Scholarship

The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Adolph Van Pelt Scholarships in amounts between $500-$800. (Freshman $500, Sophomores $600, Juniors $700, Seniors $800) Disbursement to the college is made during the fall semester.  Scholarships are renewable up to four years towards any single degree pending satisfactory progress. New contact information is required each year in addition to a copy of the previous years’ grades and new class schedule.

 

Displaced Homemaker Scholarships

The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Displaced Homemaker Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each to those men and women who would not otherwise be able to complete their educational goals due to family responsibilities.  Funds may be used to assist with childcare, transportation and basic living expenses, etc. in addition to educational costs.  Disbursement to colleges are made during the fall semester.  This scholarship does not automatically renew.  Students are eligible to apply on a yearly basis.

David Risling Emergency Aid Scholarship

The Association on American Indian Affairs offers the David Risling Emergency Aid Scholarships in amounts ranging from $100-$400 for acute, temporary emergencies.  Emergency aid is available during both fall and spring semesters for expenses accrued during the Fall and Spring semesters only.  No Summer Funding is Available.  Students may receive only one scholarship per academic year.  There is no deadline for application.  Scholarship disbursement is based on availability of funds.  Applicants must have a critical/sudden need due to a change in circumstances (death in family, medical emergency, car emergency, loss of job, etc.), a need that wasn’t expected or would prevent the student from attending school.  Outstanding tuition and books are not generally considered an emergency.

Specific Requirements:  Proof of need and statement of need.

 

Emilie Hesemeyer Memorial Scholarship 

The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Emilie Hesemeyer scholarships in the amount of $1,500 with a preference given, but not limited to, students pursuing a Major in Education.  This scholarship is renewable up to four years toward any single degree pending satisfactory progress.  Disbursement is made in the amount of $750 per semester, with subsequent disbursements requiring a copy of the first semesters’ grades and second semester class schedule. (Recipients progress will be monitored. Additional information and contact with your academic advisor may be required.)

 

Florence Young Memorial Fellowship

The Association on American Indian Affairs offers one Florence Young Memorial Fellowship in the amount of $5,000 to a student pursuing a Major in the Arts.  Disbursement is made to the college during the fall semester.  This scholarship does not automatically renew. Students are eligible to apply on a yearly basis.
