Villa Maria College 14th Annual High School Photo Exhibition 2008


Villa Maria College’s Photography Department announced the winners of its 14th annual High School Juried Photography Exhibit which opened May 23rd and will run through June 13 at the college’s Paul William Beltz Family Art Gallery. 

The winners, selected from over 150 submitted photos from seventeen different school districts included:

*   First Place –   Sam Wilber, Lewiston-Porter

*   Second Place –  Rachel Johnson, Akron

*   Third Place – Chelsea Clutter, Christina Central Academy

*   Honorable Mention – Anna McCarthy, West Valley Central; Erin McDowell, Lancaster; Sarah Hunt, Amherst; Kelsey Buerema, Amherst; Leah Lichtenberger, Tonawanda; Lisa Drennan, Lewiston-Porter; Greg Roberston, Lewiston-Porter; Amanda Galioto, Pioneer; and Kristie Robleel, Pioneer.

*  Villa Maria College $500 Scholarship Winners were Lloyd Mitchell, Jr. Edward R. Murrow; and Alexandra Gugino, Holy Angels Academy.

This year’s exhibiting high schools included: West Valley, Holy Angels, Amherst, Christian Central Academy, Lancaster, Lewiston-Porter, Depew, Tonawanda, North Collins, Pembroke, Pioneer, Akron, City Honors, McKinley, Edward R. Murrow, (Brooklyn, NY), Alden, and Randolph Central.

            Villa’s Photography Program is the only course of study in Western New York where extensive training is provided in techniques and skills necessary for success in commercial studio/freelance photography, with a strong foundation in artistic impression.

Awards were presented at a special opening ceremony Friday, May 23 in the on-campus Villa Art Gallery.  All works are on display until Monday, June 16.
